An
idyllic childhood spent roaming Ontario’s woodlands -
Cootes Paradise outside Hamilton in winter and the
Canadian Shield of Muskoka in summer – shaped my adult
life. It gave me a love of nature, and particularly, a
love of trees. Wood has been my inspiration for the past
thirty years as a professional woodworker.
I
began my cabinet-making career in the Niagara region and
moved to Muskoka permanently in 1987. Since then, I have
been encouraged by my family and the vibrant artistic
community of fellow craftspeople in Muskoka. The many
adventuresome folks who have commissioned my work have
offered me opportunities to explore my creativity and
refine my skills.
I
endeavour to minimize my environmental footprint in all
aspects of my personal and professional life. My
materials are sourced locally, often from the firewood
pile or wind thrown trees. I try to avoid tropical
rainforest species and commercially harvested timber.
Over the years, I have planted thousands of trees, both
hardwood and softwood, to replace what I have used.
